Hoonah Area Bird Species Guide
As the seasons change, so does the variety of birds found in the Hoonah area of Southeast Alaska. The most common species seen during the cruise season (late spring and summer) are listed below, though many more are possible.
Winter brings sea ducks, geese, grebes, alcids, loons, and cormorants. By mid-May, land-based species take center stage — warblers, sparrows, flycatchers, swallows, hummingbirds, and thrushes. Shorebirds are often seen during spring and fall migration.
